What's the deal with the cliff coffee in Xingyi?
It's exactly what it sounds like — a coffee house perched on a cliff at 1,634 meters above the Wanfenglin karst peak forest. The spot is called Yuhuangding Cloud House (玉皇顶云上House), and the whole point is the pairing: specialty coffee in one hand, a sea of ten thousand limestone peaks in the other. Xingyi isn't a place you'd associate with coffee culture, which is why this got attention — the venue has hosted national-level coffee events, and it put a small inland Guizhou city on China's specialty-coffee map for a moment. It sits well above the classic Wanfenglin viewpoints, so it's one of the best panoramas in the region even if you don't care about the coffee. It fits naturally into a Wanfenglin day: ride the scenic road at sunrise (open to cyclists 7pm–8am), then come up for coffee late morning or afternoon. Getting there needs wheels and some local know-how — this is a zero-English destination, and the road up isn't the kind of place you want to navigate with a translation app and a prayer. Cliff coffee is part of Xingyi's newer identity as an adventure town — caving, via ferrata, and SUP have all appeared around the same time. For directions, driving or transfer options, and how to slot it into a 3–4 day itinerary, visitxingyi.com covers it in English.
