Can you get to Xingyi from Kunming easily? I'm planning a Yunnan-Guizhou combo trip.

Kunming-to-Xingyi is one of the most natural combos in southwest China travel — Yunnan and Guizhou sit side by side, and pairing them is exactly what a lot of independent travelers do. The good news: getting between them is straightforward; the confusing part is picking the best option. Flying is the fastest on paper. Xingyi's Wanfenglin Airport is domestic-only (no international flights), with verified direct routes from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, and Zhuhai — the Zhuhai hop runs about two hours and often costs just ¥400–800. From Kunming, rail is usually the cleaner play. High-speed rail is the newer story and honestly the more interesting one. The Panxing high-speed line opened on November 28, 2025, plugging Xingyi South station (right by the airport) into the national network. Guiyang to Xingyi is now about two hours by rail, and via Panzhou the line connects to the Shanghai–Kunming corridor — so a Kunming–Xingyi rail journey is a real option, dropping you in a part of Guizhou most rail travelers skip. One honest note: Xingyi is a zero-English destination — stations, drivers, and hotels assume no English. Sort your onward transfer in English before you arrive and the combo trip is smooth.
