Asia's largest design fair, back in the 1950s Shanghai Exhibition Centre — and unlike the fashion week, it sells tickets to anyone. March 2027.
The 2025 edition drew more than 76,000 visitors and 600-plus brands from over 30 countries. The fair splits into four halls — furniture and lighting, kitchen and bathroom, lifestyle accessories, and new materials — with a set of curated strands that are usually the most interesting part for a non-trade visitor: TALENTS for emerging designers, Re:Materialize, Made in JDZ (Jingdezhen ceramics), Beyond Craft Japan, and Collectible Design & Art.
The venue matters. The Shanghai Exhibition Centre was built in the mid-1950s as the Sino-Soviet Friendship Building, and walking a contemporary design fair through its chandeliered halls is a large part of the appeal.
The fair splits its run into trade and public days, and the structure has been stable:
For the 2026 edition, single-day exhibition tickets were ¥108 on early release and ¥285 at full price; verified trade visitors get a free four-day pass. Tickets are bought through the fair's own site or its WeChat account, are tied to a date and a visitor type, and are valid only on the day booked. Entry uses a physical badge, which you can print at the venue — but printing it in advance saves a queue.
A caveat we have to be straight about: when we checked on 22 August 2026, both official sites were down — the English one showing a maintenance page and the Chinese one returning an error. So the ticket structure above is from the last edition, and the 2027 dates in the organisers' own copy (4–7 March 2027) could not be confirmed at source. We publish the month, and will pin the days when the sites come back.
The Shanghai Exhibition Centre is at 1000 Yan'an Middle Road in Jing'an, in the middle of the city and a short walk from Jing'an Temple — no expo-suburb trek required. Visitors enter from Yan'an Middle Road; VIP and press use the Nanjing West Road side.
If you are already planning a China trip around design or art, note that this sits at the opposite end of the year from Shanghai Art Week in November — between them, spring and autumn each have a reason to be in the city.
Status: Exact dates for this edition have not been announced by the organisers yet — we publish the month only, and update this page when the dates are confirmed. Held annually.
