The inaugural outdoor show of Guizhou Fashion Week — heritage textiles on a runway laid through a village museum's terraces, 25–26 August, Guiyang.

Tuesday 25 August — opening runway (invitation-only)
Guests are invited to wear one piece with a Guizhou heritage or ethnic element — silver jewellery, a batik scarf, embroidery, or, as the invitation puts it, “any visual expression you feel is close to this land”.
Wednesday 26 August — main show (public registration)
The Museum of Handcrafted Memory sits at Sanyoupo, Wenggong Village, Jinhua Town, Guanshanhu District, Guiyang (贵阳市观山湖区金华镇翁贡村三友坡) — a rural village setting rather than a convention hall, which is the point: the show is staged outdoors against the fields and peaks. The museum is the creation of the event's cultural advisor Wang Xiaomei and holds close to 6,300 heritage objects, recognised among Guizhou's leading intangible-heritage museums — so the venue is itself part of the programme, and the main-show day begins with a museum visit.
The organiser is Guizhou Yizhou Culture Media Co., Ltd (贵州一周文化传媒有限公司), with the Liuyue Art Museum (六悦美术馆) as co-organiser and the Museum of Handcrafted Memory as host venue. The published partner list is a fair map of what this scene looks like in Guizhou right now: designer labels LICHANGDE (李昌德), SONGJING and 佗寂; the Jinxiu Jihua (锦绣计划) embroidery programme; tea brand 去茶山; the 阿云朵仓 (AYdc) creative space; and the China Institute of Pan-Domain Culture, among others.
Zhang Jian (张舰), artistic director — one of the founding figures of China's fashion-show industry, active since 1984. He founded the New Silk Road model agency in 1992, launched the careers of supermodels including Chen Juanhong and Hu Bing, has directed and produced at the international fashion weeks (New York, London, Milan, Paris), and has directed China launch shows for Versace, Armani and Gucci. Chinese media call him “the father of Chinese modelling”.
Wang Xiaomei (王小梅), cultural advisor — founder of the host museum and a senior journalist with the Guizhou Daily press group. She has travelled all 88 counties of Guizhou, published over three million characters of in-depth reporting on cultural heritage, and written books including Blue Flower Narrative (蓝花叙事) and Hands' Memory (手上记忆).
The 25th is invitation-only — there is no public registration for the opening runway. The 26th main show takes registration, and it runs through the organiser's WeChat official account — no web form, no email, no ticket site. The published steps, translated:
The flow is Chinese-only and assumes a WeChat account. If you don't have one, the practical route is to ask a Chinese friend, your hotel front desk, or a local guide to register on your behalf — or message us on WhatsApp and we'll help you sort it out; we're the English-speaking team on the ground in Guizhou.
The venue is in Guanshanhu District on Guiyang's northwest side — a taxi or Didi from the city centre is the realistic way out to Wenggong Village. Guiyang's Longdongbao airport is an entry port for China's 240-hour visa-free transit scheme, and the permitted stay area is the whole province, so for 54 nationalities the paperwork barrier is low. And if heritage textiles are the reason you're coming: the batik, embroidery and indigo traditions on this runway live in the villages of eastern and southwestern Guizhou year-round — the show is the two-hour version of what the province does every day. Wanfenglin and the Xingyi UNESCO Global Geopark are two hours from Guiyang by high-speed rail.
We were there for the invitation-only opening on the 25th. It started dry — then, partway through, the rain came in hard and didn't let up, the way Guizhou weather does. The models kept walking the terraced path through the rice paddies anyway; the city skyline blurred into the hills behind them, silk and indigo soaked through.

The “Landscape as Stage, Fashion as Bridge, Heritage as Soul” line painted on the venue's steps isn't just a slogan — the runway really is a path through a working rice paddy, not a stage dressed to look like one. Alongside it, the Museum of Handcrafted Memory had its own indigo-dyeing and Miao batik-pattern displays set up for guests to see.
